ACRL 1: The information literate student determines the nature and extent of the information needed.
- Define their research needs in order to decide select the type, depth, and the amount of information they will need to complete their task.
- Investigate and select from a variety of information resources in order to choose the ones that best meet their needs.
Students will develop an understanding of how scholarly information is formally and informally produced, organized and disseminated in their field of interest in order to select appropriate research tools and resources. [in 1, 3, 4]

ACRL 2: The IL student accesses needed information effectively and efficiently
- Find and access the needed information using the library systems and other tools in order to retrieve the pertinent information they need for their task to inform his or her research.
- Students will demonstrate an awareness use of the role of library resources and services in order to build confidence and conduct research that is sufficiently comprehensive and in-depth.
- Using library systems and other tools, students will define and locate relevant scholarly and scientific information in order to produce research that is sufficiently comprehensive and in-depth.
ACRL 3 : The IL student evaluates information and its sources critically and incorporates selected information into his or her knowledge base and value system.
- Students will apply critical thinking skills in order to evaluate the information they find (popular, scholarly, current or historical, primary or secondary, etc.) to decide if it meets their criteria.
Students will be able to utilize a variety of strategies to access relevant resources in order to conduct research effectively and efficiently. [1,3]

ACRL 4 :The IL student, individually or as a member of a group, uses information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose
- Students will analyze and synthesize the information they find in order to accomplish a specific purpose (a paper, presentation, movie, etc.).
Students will develop an understanding of how scholarly information is formally and informally produced, organized and disseminated in their field of interest in order to select appropriate research tools and resources. [in 1, 3, 4]
ACRL 5 : The IL student understands many of the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information and accesses and uses information ethically and legally.
Students will understand the legal and ethical dimensions of information use in order to abide by Cornell's Code of Academic Integrity and [understand] the broader social context.
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of the ethical and legal issues surrounding the use of information in order to use, cit, and acknowledge information sources appropriately.
