________
Workflow Draft from MARC record service implementation
- Receive sample record set for non-EBSCO vendor or receive new package MARC from EBSCO monthly load
- Send either set to cataloging for review
- For non-EBSCO forward MARC file. For EBSCO set, send the package ID and link to Blacklight search. These are sent to cataloging.
- Cataloging responds with feedback
- Feedback is sent to vendor if needed
- Feedback sent to automation if local changes are needed
- If records are not able to be improved by the vendor options are:
- In case of vendor:
- Sometimes better records are available for purchase
- We may need to remediate ourselves as best we can
- In case of EBSCO:
- Look for better source of records, if available, ask EBSCO to acquire the records from that source (usually the vendor)
- If better records are only available via OCLC, EBSCO cannot acquire them, therefore consider switching to OCLC collection manager for those records
- If better records are available from the vendor but they won't give them to EBSCO, consider switching to loading from the vendor instead
- In case of vendor:
- Cataloging, acquisitions, and automation should collaborate on finding the best balance of good description, accurate access, and efficient records management.
