Agenda / Minutes

Announcements

Blackboard library tab: Usability testing done in summer 2011 - a qualtrics survey of less than 20 students. We will review later and decide on any changes to the links on the tab for next semester. Does the library tab get used (what are the stats)? Do we want to do another round of the survey with our classes this Fall? Tony will follow up.

Brainstorming activity on instructional technology

We brainstormed for 10 minutes about ideas for instructional technology. What do we want to do if the sky's the limit?

  • infrastructure for module videos
  • who? Dedicated group in the library?
  • fold technology into instruction discussions
  • ask AT to join the discussion
  • what if holly and Amy work with instructional librarians on a grant funded project?
  • forums about what works in the classroom, workshops
  • LIPP, how can this be used to work on technology in the classroom
  • communication and relationships with campus partners: this committee be a liaison to AT; rep from AT on Instruction? Or CTE?
  • AT and CTE multimedia in the classroom session
  • 8 tracks in CTE certificate, add info comp to this?

Discussion Group

Suggestions:

  • Rotate article ideas and leaders of discussion
  • Add article links to wiki
  • Use a Refshare account - join with info lit taskforce bibliography? Demo refshare at next meeting.

This month is Info Literacy month. Should we raise awareness to this?

  • priority should be raising awareness with faculty
  • Take one from Anne
  • digital signs
  • Cornell daily sun article
  • Cornell Chronicle article
  • paper poster in library - e.g. Olin banned books week - would need a good question that makes sense to students
  • postcards on info literacy - reuse these for undergraduate populations
  • CTE luncheon, schedule this end of October
  • Volunteer to partner with communications - Amy
  • Distribute postcards - Send to interested instruction coordinators

Campus Guides Demo

Campus Guides is an upgrade to LibGuides. Those who attended the demo reported back. Some new features include the ability to embed surveys and for faculty/staff/student access to libguides accounts. Other features resemble a course management system, so we should be prepared about access and responsibility issues. As it stands now, the Web Team (Ken Bolton) has taken the lead with investigating Campus Guides. What is the role of the Instruction Committee?
Jaron will investigate and report back.

Info Lit Taskforce Update

Currently the taskforce is working to understand their big picture priorities so they can devise action plans for each priority and divide into subgroups.

  • Priority 1: Information gathering
Report out at end of the year
  • Priority 2: Faculty outreach - raise awareness to faculty and library liaisons
There will be a few pilots to try things out
ACRL Immersion at Cornell a possibility

Feedback: It was suggested to hold library open meetings/forums on work of taskforce.

Co-Chair

Thomas Mills is the new co-chair. :-)
