PSEC Instruction Committee
Meeting Meetings
6/14/2011

Attendees: Matt Connolly, Gaby-Castro Gessner, Tracey Snyder, Lynn Thitchener, Wendy Wilcox (Chaired).

Announcements

The monthly Instruction Discussions are on hiatus for the summer. Wendy asked for a volunteer to coordinate these discussions next semester and Tracey volunteered.

Camille was unable to attend today's meeting because she is at this moment involved with video-taping testimonials from faculty involved with the Cornell Undergraduate Information Competency Initiative for the Cornell learning goals Web site (http://www.cornell.edu/academics/goals/ ) and the library workshops and instruction page (http://www.library.cornell.edu/svcs/serve/classinst).

All-Instructors Summit

Wendy provided a preview of the schedule for the Summit [link?]. Thirty people have signed up to attend, representing a good cross-section of instructors across the library system.

Library Guides update

Lance will be drafting the final report of the Library Guides committee to present to the committee before before it is delivered to PSEC co-chairs, Deb Schmidle and Kathy Chiang at the end of June/mid-July.

Recruiting New Committee Members

Laurent, Wendy, and Library Guide Committee Members, Susan, Matt and Lance are scheduled to rotate off the committee at the end of the June. In consultation with PSEC co-chairs, Lance has requested 2-4 members for the Instruction Committee.

Because this is Lynn's second rotation, she offered to rotate off so that Wendy might re-enlist for another 2-year term, if needed (and if she wishes to). The decision will be made once we know how many new recruits we have.

Instruction Committee-Sponsored Event for Orientation?

The members present felt that we should coordinate any potential offerings with the Reference and Outreach Committee. Lynn will contact the Committee to learn more about what R&O will be offering and offer our assistance. We also wondered if there was a specific venue for interaction with incoming TAs and new faculty as these would be the more likely target audience in which to promote library instruction. Lynn will follow-up to explore the possibilities. Addendum: A list of R&O Orientation Activities is available on the R&O wiki at https://confluence.cornell.edu/display/refoutreach/Orientation-related+Events . Jim Delrosso and Nan Hyland are the incoming co-chairs.
