Goal
The Reporting Team has been asked to transition their Tableau dashboards to PowerBI by June 2027. The goal is to get all dashboards with a priority of "high" converted by June, 2027. The following is a plan for this transition.
Contigencies
This plan is contingent on the availability of network connections from PowerBI Desktop Pro to the Metadb reporting database and Cornell Fabric server environment by June 1, 2026.
Workarounds
As a temporary measure, dashboards can be set up to use Excel files as a data source until direct connections to the Metadb reporting database can be made. Also, users can be provided with Excel reports instead of full dashboards until the dashboards can be completed.
Data Sources
Some dashboards use Metadb as their data source, while others use Excel files from alternate data sources. Dashboards that use Excel files from alternate data sources do not depend on a Metadb connection, so they can be transitioned from Tableau to PowerBI now.
Dashboards
Dashboards will be converted from Tableau to PowerBI in order of priority.
Questions
Do we need to convert archived dashboards from Tableau to PowerBI, or can we display the data without Tableau in some way? Answer: we will download the data from the dashboards into PDFs for views and Excel files for the underlying data.
