Mycobacterium bovis is an aerobic bacterium that can cause tuberculosis in cattle and humans.1 A publication by Scallan et al.2 in 2011 estimated that 60 human foodborne Mycobacterium bovis cases, including 3 deaths, occur annually in the US.
