Task Leader: Dick Aubrecht
Task Members: Sarah Fischell, Brian Kushner, Dan Simpkins, Kock-yee Law (for Sophie Vandebroek) Kock-yee is a Principle Scientist at the Xerox Webster Research Center and Xerox's key Liaison with Cornell.
Objective: To identify experiences aimed at commercialization of Cornell technology either through direct collaboration, licensing or launching of new businesses that led to productive interactions, that failed to produce results after being initiated, and that never got started despite efforts by the industrial entities to collaborate.
Timing: Preliminary report for ECC meeting on April 1
Desired material for inclusion in final report:
1. Document a sampling opportunities to commercialize Cornell technology with both large and small companies
a. Include both established companies and start-ups.
b. Include opportunities from established industries like opto-electronics and emerging industries like alternative energy and life sciences
2. For successful partnerships, determine the benefits that came from these relationships to the company and those engaged directly with Cornell, the benefits that accrued to Cornell and the faculty and students directly involved in the relationship, and the benefits that accrued to the Ithaca community, and New York State. Also, determine what could have been done differently to make the experience for positive for the participants and possibly more productive.
3. For less successful partnerships or those that never started, what factors contributed to not achieving the desired outcomes, and what are seen as the key actions that might have led to a more productive outcome.
