Solar Lovin' Weekly Update

Insulation Team

-      Constructed insulated box walls

-      Constructed lid for insulated box

-      Constructed frame for experimental test wall

-      Determined design for mounting the experimental wall

-      Communicated with local community in Nicaragua to determine that fiberglass is an insulation material of interest

Ithaca Ovens/Prop Rod Team

-      Came up with design for prop rods

-      Found the needed materials for prop rods and began construction

-      Decided on design for the small Ithaca oven, dimensions were finalized and schematic was drawn

-      Checked with Tim on the availability of materials and made preparations for the beginning of construction which is scheduled to start on Monday

Parabolic Team

-      Conducted research to determine what best suits the design

-      Determined to use parabolic shape

-      Decided on a compound parabola

-      Decided on the focal length to be 1.5 meters

-      Flat metal sheet will be used as the material

-      No overlap in the pieces

-      Will use a ring frame for the apparatus
