Spring 2009 Minutes

February 6, 2009

Accomplishments

  • Tried running simulations on SGI server using 4, 5 and 10 processors
  • Met with Prof Bhaskaran and decided the direction for further effort
  • Wrote up the semester goals and the detailed task list for the first half of the semester

Metrics

  • For 30,000 cells, 10 processors only saved about 10% of the running time for 50 iterations

Outcomes

  • Should try using Reynold Stress Model

Issues

  • The different predictions from 2D and 3D periodic models
  • Repeat the comparison without turbulence model; Contact FLUENT technical support about this puzzle
