• Cornell Health

  • Services: https://health.cornell.edu/services
    • Many services including sickness treatment, preventive care, health check ups (x-rays, lab tests, etc.), reproductive health, mental health, etc.
    • For emergencies, go to CMC/call 911 instead
    • For severe injury, illness/anything needing specialist care, they may refer you to another provider
  • For fees, check the "Insurance - Student Health Plan" section
    • Basically, most preventive care is free, all vaccinations are also free
    • Mental health counseling is $10/visit, this is VERY cheap for individual counseling
    • Other things, they charge you a fixed amount like $10, $25, $50, or 10%, 30% of the fee

• Cayuga Medical Center (CMC) – 24/7 Hospital & Emergency Department

  • Appropriate for medical, mental health, and drug/alcohol-related emergencies, plus urgent care needs when other options are closed

• Super Emergencies

  • Call 911 → e.g. a friend suddenly passes out. They will send ambulance. I believe it's free for on-site (where the accident happens) emergency care by ambulance medical team. You pay if the ambulance carries you to a hospital and get you treated there (I forgot how much..)

Insurance - Student Health Plan

Students in Cornell have to be enrolled in the Student Health Plan.requires students to have health insurance that meets the university's requirements or enroll in Cornell's Student Health Plan (SHP) (https://health.cornell.edu/get-care/insurance-billing#:~:text=Student%20health%20insurance%20requirements,matter%20what%20insurance%20they%20have.)

• Dental and vision add-on plan? Worth it?

  • This service is NOT included in the basic plan. You have to add-on, for a fee. And there's a deadline every year to apply, so pay attention to emails about this
  • (Luna) I have no experience honestly.. but I heard from a friend that dental is not worth it - better to have get another type of dental plan

Insurance Options for Dependents

• Dependents of Cornell Students can also be enrolled in Student Health Plan (SHP) with additional fee. Alternatively, they are likely be eligible for free insurance coverage through Medicaid. Apply for Medicaid through NY State Marketplace.
• Cornell Health clinics only serve adults (including dependents) with SHP coverage. If you opt for Medicaid, you won't be able to go to Cornell Health. On the other hand, Cornell Health only serve adults and has on pediatrics. Therefore, even if your children are enrolled with SHP, they won't be able to go to Cornell Health either.
