PSEC Instruction Committee meeting with CUL Instruction Coordinators
Minutes 2/4/2010

Attending: Camille Andrews, Jeremy Cusker, Susanne Whitaker, Lynn Thitchener, Chris Miller, Jim Albert, Eric Acree, Laurent Ferri, Pat Court, Baseema Krkoska, Ken Bolton, Wendy Wilcox, Jaron Porciello, Gaby Castro Gessner, Neely Tang and Tony Cosgrave

Updates and announcements - We went around the room and each coordinator gave a brief update on instruction from their unit. Since it was difficult to capture any meaningful details we created a spot on the Instruction Wiki where instruction coordinators can summarize their comments about instruction activities in their unit that they shared at the meeting. Additionally, please share any ideas or needs you have regarding instruction on the wiki at https://confluence.cornell.edu/display/instruct/Ideas+and+Needs+from+Instructors

Review Mission Statement - We reviewed the draft CUL mission statement developed by an Instruction Committee subgroup and looked at comments that were left on the wiki. Appropriate comments and suggestions have been incorporated and the updated mission statement is available for review and comment at https://confluence.cornell.edu/display/instruct/Draft+of+Mission+Statement.

Plans for developing learning outcomes - Gaby reported on her experience at the Assessment Immersion workshop she attended. She showed a PowerPoint presentation and reviewed plans for using the CUL and CUL Instruction mission statements to generate learning outcomes for the CUL Instruction Program.

Instruction information on CUL website - Tony showed the group the CUL web pages that the Instruction Committee is responsible for maintaining. He asked the coordinators to please review their unit's information on http://campusgw.library.cornell.edu/svcs/serve/classinst and the pages linked from it and to send him any updates. Tony also reminded people that we can add non LibGuide course and subject guides to the lists on the CUL website. Please send name and url to Tony or Camille.

LibGuides archiving and naming - Lynn (member of the LibGuides subcommittee) introduced this topic. The group looked at some of the current LibGuides list and agreed that it was time to consider archiving some older guides to make the lists more useful to students. It was suggested that we keep the current semester or current year and make older ones private if possible. Lynn reminded people that the LibGuides naming conventions are posted at https://confluence.cornell.edu/display/instruct/LibGuides.

Report on instruction registration calendar - Camille reported that we now have a newer version of the registration calendar which allows us to create branches for individual libraries. As a result any given unit can maintain its own calendar and have its event also show up on a central calendar. Among other things, this would allow a unit library to customize reminder messages. Units interested in establishing a calendar should contact Camille.
