Background: Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Bovismorbificans (antigenic formula 6,8,20:r[i,]:1,5) is a serovar of the O:8 serogroup. The prevalence of this serovar is generally low. For example, between three and fourteen cases of S. serovar Bovismorbificans occur annually in the Netherlands. However, multidrug-resistant strains have been isolated from calves in Australia, showing resistance to ampicillin, sulfonamides, tetracycline, neomycin, kanamycin, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, and streptomycin.
