Background: Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Tennessee (antigenic formula 6,7,14:z29:[1,2,7]) is a serovar of the O:7 (C1) serogroup. From 1995 to 2004, an average of 52 Salmonella Tennessee cases were reported to the National Salmonella Surveillance System every year. Nuts and seeds such as sesame-based products, pistachio halva are the common vehicles for serovar Tennessee. 

Animal reservoir: No animal reservoir is identified for serovar Tennessee.

Geographical distribution: Serovar Tennessee has been found in Germany, Hungary, Canada, and the U.S.

Human outbreaks: Outbreaks have been associated with S. Tennessee.
