FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who needs to take PCI training?

Anyone who uses a credit card device, or has access to a credit card portal, a payment gateway, and/or a third party service provider that is used to process payments, and anyone supervising those employees, should be taking an annual PCI training course.

In what format is the training delivered?

The training will be computer-animated, and will be separated out into short segments of a few minutes each. Trainees can save their progress as they work through it. There will be a short quiz at the end of each module.

Will there be a transcript?

Yes, you will be able to download a transcript for each course.

Do I have to take more than one course?

No. Employees will only need to take ONE of the five courses – whichever one is most applicable to their situation. Much of the material is the same across all five courses. 

I took the CASH 200 training in Workday during this calendar year; would I need to take this new CampusGuard training once it launches?

Not necessarily. If you have taken the training in CU Learn or Workday after your 2024 SAQ date, then that training will apply toward the 2025 SAQ. There’s no need to take training twice in one year – the PCI Council only requires that PCI training be taken upon hire and once annually thereafter.

Will I need a separate password to access the CampusGuard training?

No. It will be single sign on (SSO) access – you will log in using your Cornell netID / password.

Which course should I take?

Here’s a recap of the five courses that are available:

• Merchant – intended for someone who is completing an SAQ or is with a merchant that accepts both in-person and online transactions. Applies also to cases where phone, mail, fax, etc. payments are processed.
• Cashier – intended primarily for those in dining/retail locations who are strictly processing cards one at a time through a terminal. Cashiers must not process any other method of payment (e.g. phone, mail, online).
• eCommerce - someone who is managing an HPP or other simple eCommerce page. No in-person, mail, phone, fax, etc. payments must be accepted in order to take this training.
• IT - someone who is managing IT infrastructure involved with payment processing, but is not actually processing transactions or completing an SAQ.
• Executive - a senior finance officer who would like a high-level overview of PCI compliance activities at Cornell. May also be involved with signing the annual training attestation. Available as an optional training.

If you’re not sure which course to take, we recommend the Merchant course, as that is the one most similar to our current CASH 200 training.

How do I register staff who are required to complete the course?
