Background information: Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Leeuwarden (antigenic formula 11:b:1,5) is a serovar of the O:11 (F) serogroup. This serovar was first identified by A. B. Wielenga from a stool sample of a five-month-old baby with enteritis in the Netherlands.
