CUL Instruction Summit

Information literacy (IL), always crucial to the library, is now an explicit goal for every student graduating from Cornell: “Information Literacy: access, evaluate, and use a variety of relevant information sources”- http://www.cornell.edu/provost/assessment/learning_outcomes.cfm . What does this mean for those who do instruction at the library, and how can we as a “one Cornell [library]” make sure that students get the information skills they need to survive at Cornell and thrive in a rapidly changing world? Join PSEC Instruction for an all-day “summit” to discuss how we can:

• Increase our awareness and common understanding of student information literacy learning outcomes, the new strategic plans, and what part we play in building a cohesive IL program
• Examine the student learning outcomes and what instructors across the system are already doing toward these goals
• Brainstorm what an ideal instruction program would look like and do, and identify gaps and possible solutions in order to start creating unit-level action plans

Your participation is crucial! A strategic plan is nothing without the input, work and direction of those “in the trenches.”  We invite you to make your voice heard as we collectively decide how the library addresses this important strategic priority.
