ACRL 1: The information literate (IL) student determines the nature and extent of the information needed.

• Students will develop an understanding of how scholarly information is formally and informally produced, organized and disseminated in order to select appropriate research tools and resources relevant to their field of inquiry.
• Students will define Define their information needs and understand how scholarly information is produced in order to select from a variety of appropriate research resources, strategies, and types of materials.
  

ACRL 2: The IL student accesses needed information effectively and efficiently

• Students will apply a research strategy to navigate the Library's collections effectively and efficiently and use sources available beyond the Library as appropriate. 
• Students will find Find and use relevant information available from the Library collections, the internet, and other sources in order to confidently access needed information effectively and efficiently.
  

ACRL 3: The IL student evaluates information and its sources critically and incorporates selected information into his or her knowledge base and value system.

• Students will apply critical thinking skills in order to evaluate the information they find (popular, scholarly, current or historical, primary or secondary, etc.) to decide if it meets their criteria.
• Students will be able to evaluate information sources critically according to selected criteria (such as authority, currency, bias, etc) in order to select appropriate sources to inform their research.

ACRL 4: The IL student, individually or as a member of a group, uses information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose

• Students will analyze and synthesize the information they find in order to accomplish a specific purpose (a paper, presentation, movie, etc.).
• Students will synthesize information to accomplish a specific purpose (a paper, presentation, movie, etc.).

ACRL 5: The IL student understands many of the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information and accesses and uses information ethically and legally.

• Students will develop an understanding of the ethical and legal issues surrounding the use of information in order to use, cite, and acknowledge information sources appropriately.
• Studnets Students will demonstrate Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical, legal and social issues surrounding information in order to access, use, cite, and produce information appropriately and according to the Cornell's Code of Academic Integrity.
