Accomplishments

  • Practice the basic laminar pipe flow simulation on Fluent; reviewed and reflected on Introduction to CFD basics.
  • Reviewed sedimentation tank design basics.

Outcomes

  • Some naive thoughts on the approach of problem based on reading and practice:
  • Laminar flow maybe more preferable for the purpose of settling; modeling laminar flow uses different numerical scheme from turbulent flow which is with the case of flocculation simulation.
  • Primitive ideas: three elementary flow region: collision region(CR), single flow(SF), stagnation region(SR); three types of connections: CR-SF, SF-SR, CR-SR.
  • Need further study to verify these ideas.
