Crane group members can access their data using any of the 4 workstations, or from the Lancaster/ Crane cluster. Here's how that's done.

Overview

  • Research data would ideally be backed up. Reasonably enough the group does not want to pay to back up some large data.
    • Rule of thumb: Back up data unless it's large AND restorable from elsewhere, such as the raw data.
  • Research data (whether backed up or not) should be available from any of the group's workstations and the cluster.

From any of the 4 workstations

Log in using your NetID.

  • Anything you store within your home profile (including desktop) is not available from the cluster and is backed up. Naturally, it's available from any of the workstations.
  • Anything you store in "data" is available from the cluster and backed up. Naturally, it's available from any of the workstations.
  • Anything you store in "notbackedup" is not also available from the cluster, but is not backed up. Naturally, it's available from any of the workstations.

From the Lancaster/ Crane cluster

Log in using your cluster account ID.

  • Anything you store within your home profile is not backed up and not available from the cluster.
  • Anything you store in "data" is available. See above, under workstations, for more details.
  • Anything you store in "notbackedup"  is also available. See above, under workstations, for more details.
