Listeria monocytogenes is a Gram-positive foodborne pathogen^1^ that causes a severe, but rare foodborne disease. A publication by published by Scallan et al.2 in 2011 estimated that 1455 human foodborne listeriosis cases, including 255 deaths, occur annually in the US.
