  • Hot off the press:  the second Annolid paper (arXiv preprint), focusing on Annolid's new zero-annotation automatic tracking capabilities.  
  • Chen will present the newest developments in the Annolid software package for deep learning-based behavior analysis using instance segmentation.  There are substantial new advances to present, based on new models including Cutie VOS (visual object segmentation) and Meta's Segment Anything that are used for easier object identification and automatic tracking.  Come with your ideas, questions, and research needs.

Presenting your own work is always welcome, in whatever manner you like.

  • Background info:  Barb Finlay is delivering the Gibson Lecture on Friday 18 April at 3:00 pm.  The evening before, there will be a Gibson Seminar and catered dinner starting at 5:00 pm on April 17 in Uris 204.  In traditional BBS style, the focus is on grad students, but all can attend.  If you intend to go to the April 17th evening dinner seminar, please RSVP at this link, ideally by this Friday 11 April.  The official announcement was emailed out on Tuesday 4/8 with subject line "Gibson lecture and grad student seminar".  
  • At the evening Gibson Seminar, two of Barb's papers will be discussed, and we'll delve into broader issues of theory, data, and comparative work with her.  We at the CNS JC would like to read the same papers, a couple days ahead, in order to get into them early and hence improve the quality of our discussions with Barb on Thursday.  So, we will discuss both of them in CNS JC on April 15.  Here they are:

So as we all learned today, "mitochondrial heterogeneity" usually means different numbers/densities of mitochondria being present in different cells or volumes of tissue from different regions of (in our case) the brain... but it also can mean actual differences in the properties of individual mitochondria, or classes of mitochondria.  Or so it seems.  Should you wish to dig into this, here are a couple of reviews that may be of interest:
