Using a QuickAdd package

Summary

Enroll Computers using QuickAdd Package.

• Requires Chemistry IT's ADM accounts so student staff can't do this unassisted.

Details

• Install the package, for example "JAMFQuickAdd-Chemistry-***" to the computer. (The computer will be enrolled to JAMF Pro after the installation is done, if it's on the network.)

  • Specific example of the path and file name, as of 4/6/2018:
    
    • smb://chemit.chem.cornell.edu/ChemIT-Files/Macintosh/Casper, JAMF Pro/JAMFQuickAdd-Chemistry-12112017.pkg
  • Successful installation will result in a new application within the Applications folder called, "Self Service".
• Log into the Casper Management website (JSS Dashboard) with your your NetID account to edit the new added computer information.

• At the top of the page, select CHM or PHY, as appropriate. Then click the Computers Icon also near the top to get a column shown to the left and be automatically shown the Advanced Computer Search page.
  
  • Find the newly added computer by going to "AS-CHM-All Computers". Or, if you are in the PHY section, "AS-PHY-All Computers".
  • You could use your ADM account to have also seen this computer in "Smart Computer Groups" => "No Departments". Value of this capability?!
• Click the computer, the click on "User and Location" and click the Edit button.
  • Use the pull-down menu for Department. Ex: AS-CHM - Chemistry and Chemical Biology
  • Use the pull-down menu for Building. Ex: Baker Lab
  • Type in Room. Ex: 140D
  • Click the Save button.

Creating a QuickAdd package

Summary

Use Recon to create a QuickAdd package that enrolls computers when the package is installed on computers.

• Only trained Chemistry IT staff should do this, and it requires their ADM account.

Details

Steps to create a QuickAdd package:

1. Open Recon Application; Select If it is the first time to run a Casper Suite app, you'll see a Preferences dialog box, asking for your JSS Address. Enter: https://jssmgt.it.cornell.edu/arts Then select QuickAdd Package in left sidebar;
2. Username:chemit-managed or physit-managed
3. Password choose "Randomly generate password"
4. check "Create management account if it doesn't exist" and check "Hide management account"
5. Leave other non-checked
6. Site: choose AS-Chemistry - CHM, or  AS-Physics - PHY
7. Click Create button, save as: "JAMFQuickAdd-Chemistry-***" (*** is date eg..12112017) or "JAMFQuickadd-Physics-***" then click Save button.
8. Save the latest packages into T:\Macintosh\Casper, JAMF Pro

How to add a machine to Casper using QuickAdd Package created by Casper Recon tool

Install the package, for example "JAMFQuickAdd-Chemistry-***" to the computer. The computer will be enrolled to JAMF Casper after the installation is done.

Go to Casper Management website https://jssmgt.it.cornell.edu/arts/ to edit the new added computer information.

Click "smart Computer Groups" then "No Departments" (This group is site is "None", so you have to use your ADM account to login to see this group), you will see the new added computer is listed there.

Or You can find the computer on "search Inventory" and go to "AS-CHM-All Computers" or "AS-PHY-All Computers"
