Background: Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Korovi (antigenic formula 38:g,m,[s]:–) is a serovar of the O:38 (P) serogroup. This serotype was first identified discovered in 1955 from the Belgian Congo, and has recently been found in organic tahini (sesame paste) from Germany, made with raw material from Uganda. in 1955. FDA found this serovar in shelled macadamia nut. 

Genetic characteristics: Serovar Korovi is considered rare, and there is no known literature that has studied it.

Animal reservoir: Not clear Serovar Korovi has been found in cattle, lizards, and snakes.

Geographical distribution:  Serovar Korovi has been reported in the US, Ethiopia, and several European countries , such as Sweden, Germany, LuxembourgSpain, and Northern Irelandthe UK. Outbreaks:S. Korovi has not been linked to outbreaks. Relevant links:

Border rejections: There have been no recent border rejections linked to this serovar.

Recalls:

¹ Salmonella Oslo and Salmonella Korovi were both identified in the product. This product was also distributed to Ireland, Luxembourg, Austria, and Spain.
