Listeria monocytogenes is a Gram-positive foodborne pathogen1 that causes a severe, but rare foodborne disease. A publication by Scallan et al.2 in 2011 estimated that 1455 1,591 human foodborne listeriosis cases, including 255 deaths, occur annually in the US.
