Spring 2016

...

: During my first semester with AguaClara, I have many goals. Being on the Design team, my first focus is to familiarize a lot to learn! I plan to focus the first half of it familiarizing myself with MathCAD and AutoCAD. Once I want to be as fluent as possible with the software so that I can take on bigger projects for the remainder of my time on the team. Once I feel comfortable with the coding, I cannot wait to begin work on one of the challenges that the Design team is working on this semester. I might even have the opportunity to work with other members of the team on some of the larger and more important projects. I am very excited for the work ahead!feel fluent enough in the programs, I will likely take on the larger task of modular design. For this, I will work to create AutoCAD drawings of individual components of the plant as opposed to the entire plant itself. There is a lot of work ahead and I look forward to seeing how I can contribute!

Fall 2016: This semester, I took on the task of transitioning our designs from AutoCAD to Autodesk's new program: Fusion 360. This program uses cloud-based services to make designs more interactive and easily accessible from users all over the world. Over the past couple months, I've been looking into the specifics of using Python code to communicate with the application and create designs. Ultimately, the goal is to write new translators that will take MathCAD code and translate it into Python code. The task is quite a large one that will undoubtedly take a few semesters to complete but I welcome the challenge and am very excited for the work ahead. I really believe in this program for many reasons and think it is critical that the team transition our designs into this modern-day program as it will be better to use and communicate our technology as the project expands, especially to other countries.
