DEV Service Updates / Impacts

1. Certain Browser versions present issues while editing pages.  Use of a different browser is recommended when this occurs.

Timeouts can also be caused by outdated browser cache. Clearing your cache and cookies often resolves these issues and is a recommended step from Atlassian.

2. PDF exports are currently disabled due to system stability issues.
As a workaround, please export your page(s) to Microsoft Word and then print it to PDF.Dashboard

Sunday, March 29th, early morning outage to upgrade to version 5.7.1
On Sunday, March 29th, beginning at 4:30 am Eastern Standard Time, Confluence will be unavailable for up to three hours while we apply an small update from version 5.6.6 to version 5.7.1.  This update provides us with the ability this summer to replace the six-year-old databases which store Confluence content.  If you edit Confluence pages, please have a look now to see how your pages would look in version 5.7.1 by visiting our test system at
https://confluence-test.cit.cornell.edu
and reporting any questions or problems you might encounter to the email address confluence at cornell.edu.

Change to appearance of dashboard

On March 22nd at 7 am, we turned off the ThemeBuilder add-on.  Add-ons to Confluence are extra pieces of code which provide features beyond those available from Atlassian, the maker of the Confluence wiki.  Add-ons may result in additional annual charges and in some cases are difficult to support.  The presence of ThemeBuilder caused a six-month delay in our ability to upgrade to Confluence 5 and more recently lead to a month-long licensing error in the footer of most pages.  Since use of this add-on dropped off dramatically after the Confluence upgrade in January, we have taken this opportunity to retire the ThemeBuilder add-on.  As a substitute, space administrators can now adjust the look and feel of their spaces using stylesheets instead.   This page, the dashboard, had been using the ThemeBuilder add-on to include the graphics of Ezra Cornell and the clock tower at the top of the page.  Since March 22nd, the pictures are no longer present.

Not finding a Confluence account when adding permissions?

Confluence accounts are created at the time a netID holder logs in for the first time.  If you see the error "User netID could not be found.  Please confirm his or her existence with a Confluence Administrator" then please ask the user to log in to Confluence once to establish an account.  After the first log in, you will then be able to add the netID to Confluence space permissions.

Confluence account clean up

We are starting a process to deactivate Confluence accounts belonging to graduated students and staff and faculty who have left the university. This process is reversible and does not remove pages or other content added by these users. Please let us know by writing to confluence at cornell.edu if there are any questions or concerns about this process.

Archiving Inactive Spaces

Over the years, the amount of content in Confluence has grown so that there are more than 1,700 spaces.  Atlassian, the makers of Confluence, tell us that we have a very large Confluence instance.  A number of these spaces are inactive, and the content has not been updated for many years sometimes because the original creators and maintainers of the spaces have left the university.   In order to keep Confluence running well for the users of actively maintained spaces, we are archiving a number of these inactive spaces.  You can see a list under Spaces > Space directory > Archived category.    The content remains in place, accessible and editable although it will not appear in search results unless you check the "Search archived spaces" checkbox.
