Undergraduate studies in Food Safety at Purdue University:
Prospective undergraduate students interested in the discipline of Food Safety are encouraged to apply for the Food Science undergradaute program or the Agricultural and Biological Engineering program. Currently, there is no Food Safety specific major at Purdue University. However, the Food Science and ABE majors include exceptional courses in the field allowing for a well rounded Food Scientist or Food Engineer. During a student's tenure, internships in the Food Industry are highly supported. Opportuniteis Opportunities for relevant Food Safety work in the Food Industry include quality assurance work with major players including General Mills, Cargill, Kraft, Nestle, ConAgra, etc., There are several faculty members in the Department of Food Science with research endeavors in Food Microbiology and Safety. At Purdue, undergraduate student participation in research is highly supported from faculty members allowing for hands-on experience in cutting-edge research.

Prospective graduate students interested in continuing their education in the realm of Food Safety are encouraged to apply for an MS or PhD in the graduate program in Food Science. Additionally, further research opportunities in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (Food Process Control Studies) and the School of Veterinary Medicine (Comparative Pathobiology).
