Scope: This procedure addresses the creation or revision of appropriate Holdings and Item records for materials where two or more works, issued independently, were later bound, filmed, or housed together in a single unit (e.g. in a volume, on a single microfilm reel, etc.). The works may be related by publisher, theme, genre, or other elements, or they may simply contain a variety of works reflecting the choices of the compiler. Each of the titles will have a separate instance record, but the physical piece will have 1 barcode, so it is crucial that the Bound-with information be entered accurately to link all the titles parts to the item record associated with that barcode, so staff and patrons can locate the correct correct physical resource. It is recommended that only experienced catalogers or Database Quality staff work with "bound-with" materials, unless appropriate training can be arranged.
