Genetic characteristics: 

Animal reservoir: Animal reservoirs for S. Weltevreden have not been definitively identified, but seafood (e.g., fish and shrimp) have been implicated. 

Geographical distribution: S. Weltevreden has been found in Southeast Asian meat, vegetables and seafood, and in the United States from imported tuna from Indonesia, as well as in the United Kingdom from betel leaves imported from Malaysia.  Alfalfa sprouts have also been implicated in other European outbreaks.  Gastroenteritis associated with S. Weltevreden has been reported in the US, Europe and India.
