  • Gaby announced that Erin Eldimier will be an intern for RAU. Part of her internship will be working on the curriculum mapping project. She will also sit in on the Teaching Forum.
  • Fall information literacy training for CUL. Chris brought the idea to BLAST. There is interest so far in doing this for Business resources.
  • Amy reported that the PSEC May 15 meeting will decide on new membership for committees. We are looking for 1 at large member. Thomas and Kaila will attend.
  • Mary suggested that we review the Information Literacy Task Force report at the first meeting of the new PSEC Team in July. She will send this out to everyone.
  • We will also need to vote on the chair-elect at the 2nd meeting of the new PSEC Team (probably August).
  • Kaila gave an update on the Mann Life Sciences/Instruction Coordinator search: phone interviews are done; inviting final candidates for on-campus in May.
  • We discussed the last Reading Discussion on humor. Possible future forum/workshop on learning techniques to help with teaching anxiety?

Other: April article discussion on humor in the classroom with Chris Miller.  Office of Undergraduate Research is interested in us preparing a list of library instruction credit courses to be made available on the web for interested students to see. Step one is compiling a list of all the credit courses currently being offered.  Mary is going to compile a list from information she has gathered in the past.  Chris is going to send Mary information on a new course that was just approved.  Mary will share her list for review with an eye toward identifying additions for the list.

  • AEM class: Tom Ottaviano is looking for volunteers to assist students with their assignment. It's an opportunity to learn about business resources and work with students across the disciplines who are minoring in Business.
  • Mann Instruction Coordinator - Life Sciences Librarian position posted. 
  • Legal Research Series offered by Law Library (March 25, April 1, April 8). Business could be a good topic to do in the Fall. Chris will ask HLM group.
  • Chris Miller will represent PSEC Instruction at CD Week committee lightning round.

  • CTE expressed interest for CUL to offer another session on information literacy at their faculty institute in May 22 & 23
  • Chris discussed his conversations with CTE about them providing workshops for CUL instructors. 
  • This brought up a discussion of the LIPP program. Good materials were developed to help librarians partner and observe each other teach.

  • Nicole at NYU (Kaila's former colleague), interested in promoting reflection in the classroom, could be interesting to have her here for the charette, as she was involved, we could learn what people are doing at NYU

  • Opportunity to discuss PSEC Instruction including IL
  • Depending on other readings, we could invite authors for continuity
  • Gaby can share notes typed up from charette
  • Could have someone from CTE during the day (could be almost a full day)
  • R&O Unconference is May 21, could do the summit in the fall semester (May 4 is the last day of classes), could do a morning (or morning, with something optional in the beginning of the afternoon), could have Barbara Freedman and/or someone from CTE
  • Best week would be before Unconference
  • We have the funding this year
  • Half-day with Nicole/charette and optional afternoon session (1 or 1.5 hour(s)) which is open to everyone and about the discussion of future direction of PSEC Instruction
  • If not Nicole, someone from CTE with the idea of feeding out of a past article discussion

  • IMLS grant on library services and their impact on student success. 
    Lisa Hinchliffe, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; Megan Oakleaf, Syracuse University; and Kara Malenfant, Association of College and Research Libraries have received an IMLS grant to conduct a study of the impact of library services on student learning and student success. They will be looking for 75 institutions and will have a call for applications in January.
