The plant will receive water from two sources: one covered which only requires filtration, the other open which requires full flocculation, sedimentation and filtration. The scaling tendency of Las Vegas' water results in the precipitation of calcium carbonate throughout their distribution network. The city has to replace piping whenever the obstructions grow too large, a significant and recurrent expense. The AguaClara plant will be equipped to dose a small amount of acid in order to inhibit this scaling tendency and avoid this expense.
