The Fall '09 ANC Control team tried using a different theory (that of lime 'particles' and tube settler spacing equations) to obtain a consistency between the theoretical and experimental results, this theory was only true for a certain brand of lime after which the lime feeder ran for a maximum uninterrupted duration of 4hrs 20min.
...
* Finding out what, if not the hypothesized carbonates, is causing the poor performance of the lime feeder in comparison to its theoretical run length and how can it be overcome.
* Verifying if the quality of water has a strong influence on the pH behavior or not i.e. whether it is worth using the costlier distilled water for experiments in place of tap water or not. (To make these evaluations, it is necessary to run more trials on the experiment using the new lime but with tap water; and using the old brand of lime with distilled water.)
* Evaluating if the design calculations made so far are acceptable for different types of lime (different brands will have slightly different compositions) with slightly varying solubility characteristics in water.
* Improving the constructional design of the lime feeder (since the present one is difficult to handle) or experimenting a newer model for the lime feeder
* Recalculate design dimensions while taking into account the natural variation of flow rate at the inlet tank in the water treatment plant.
